Recently, I was asked by a research company in New York to share some industry insight into the baking industry on a global basis, as well as talk them through economic indicators for establishing a business in what the believed key markets of Europe and South America.

After a great deal of deliberation and thought i started mapping out the changes in the global regions and noticed how the industry as a whole was beginning to change and revitalise itself.

More interestingly there is a reinsurance in various regions of the world which made for some positive thoughts on how the industry is growing and what it needs to continue the growth.

With the popularity of the baking industry in its various forms on tv and other types of social media which in turn have generated many new celebrities. These people have truly have become ambassadors for the industry in what is fast becoming and in all honesty has created new interest in a dying industry in Europe and North America.

This renewed interested which can only be a positive and bring more interest into what used to be consider an industry with low pay and unsociable hours, which was to a point.

The “Phoenix” moment is occurring in many ways with the opening of specialist businesses such as the cupcake shops, home industries with cake decorating etc, many other forms of baking have been growing in recent years.

There is a real demand for education in the industry especially in the Asia Pacific region, Western Europe has lost much of its educational support and background with many colleges or institutions becoming run down or poorly funded as well as being unable to generate qualified people or inspire the younger generations into the industry. Which is changing and i believe changing for the good, these changes are happening quicker than we realise it is which is great news.

Industry changes are becoming tangible and real, more financial investments are being made into larger more efficient facilities which are growing and becoming more frequent investments, the industry is growing albeit slowly, however it remains a fact that the industry is growing and will hopefully continue to grow and bring in new people into the industry.

The future is looking brighter so lets embrace this growth and continue to help support one of the oldest industries we have in the modern world.
