Being exceptional at what you do today does not automatically mean you’re ready for what comes next.

We’ve seen it damage careers, destabilise teams, and quietly erode businesses from the inside. A star performer becomes a struggling manager. A trusted operator gets lost at director level. And nobody wins not the business, not the team, and worst of all not the individual.

Promotion has to be built on demonstrated capability for the next role. Not loyalty. Not likability. Not past performance alone, it’s not a fundamental requirement to be liked in business…. it’s about delivery and leadership that counts the most. Ive said this many times “there are no emotions in business”
